Essay: Role of Youths in Nation Building

Every citizen of a nation has a responsibility to develop it. If everyone works hard in their own field, it is easier to develop the nation. Youths are the important parts of the nation because it is the youths who can become great manpower for the development of the nation. 

Youths should contribute to the nation by doing useful things in different sectors like education, health, technology, engineering, politics and so on. They should first get a good education to be able and skillful persons. Education makes them responsive to change. If they have education, they can apply new methods for the progress of the nation. They should have the feeling of nationality and they should help to create a peaceful environment in every sector. If there is peace and youths are united, the national plans can easily be successful. They should have the feeling of patriotism and think of doing creative work which helps to develop the nation to some extent. They should work in a disciplined manner and create mutual understanding among people.

They should not do such activities which are against national development. They should not work against the law and no one should break the rules of the nation. They should not ignore the nation by wandering in foreign countries. If every youth does a small thing for the nation, that will be a great thing to help develop the nation.

The present situation of youths is not satisfactory. Many youths are neglecting education. They are badly influenced by media and imported cultures. Many youths are addicted to drugs and involved in crimes. These activities are not the role of youths. If bad activities of youths are not controlled, it is not possible to build our nation.

To sum up, the nation can't be developed and built without the contribution of youths. Many youths are not on the right way for nation's development. That is why parents, community, civil society, NGOs, INGOs, and government all should help to create such an environment in which all the youths can stay and work together for nation building.

Study Note: Challenges for Nepalese Youths

-       Youths are misused by political leaders. They are used for wrong purposes like raising the leader’s flag and making unnecessary roar. They are believed to be beneficial when they belong to a certain political party.

-        Our government is not far-sighted in terms of making policy for youths. This leads them to their dark future.

-        Youths also lack respect for labor. They think it’s illogical to make their hands dirty after college graduation.

-        Youths are supposed to be the active manpower. However, their hard work and labor are sold for nominal wages.

-        Our education system is not job-oriented. Up to secondary level education, students rot theories rather than involving in any practical base study. So, they become the victim of brain drain after their graduation. 

-         Lack of job opportunities in Nepal after completing education, low salary and perks to employed workers make people leave the country.

-         Going abroad is not a problem rather the problem is that most of the students who go abroad tend to live in foreign countries and work there.

-         They complain that there aren’t appropriate opportunities in Nepal to utilize the skills learnt abroad in those countries not in Nepal.

-         Every middle -class family dreams to send the children abroad for further education.

-         There is demand of skilled manpower in Nepal. More skilled manpower is required in new sectors like hydro, computer hardware and software, medicine, etc. But such manpower is not available in Nepal. We need to hire such manpower from other countries.

-         We can see nuclear policies regarding the labor force required in the country. Similarly, there are undefined duties and responsibilities of employment regulating offices. There is no clear vision and mission about the required skill and number of employees in the country.
