Nobel Prize: About Alfred Nobel
The famous scientist Alfred Nobel, known as the inventor of dynamite,
was born in 1833 in Stockholm (Sweden). When Alfred Nobel was 18 years old, he
was sent to America to study chemistry. Dynamite was discovered in 1867 by
Alfred Nobel.
Alfred Nobel was of a very zealous instinct, which is why he made a
total of 355 innovations in his whole life. However, his most revolutionary
discovery was in 1867 as dynamite. He had earned a lot of wealth and fame by
inventing dynamite.
After completing his studies, he started studying explosives and
especially "nitroglycerin" at his father's factory in Sweden. On
September 3, 1864, the father's factory was destroyed by a terrible explosion,
and Alfred's younger brother was also killed in this incident. Alfred Nobel
died of a heart attack in Italy on 10 December 1896.
Nobel Prize: The Event Behind the Commencement of the Nobel Prize
In fact, there was a news accidentally published in a newspaper behind
the introduction of Nobel Prize. In 1888, a newspaper erroneously printed
"Death of the merchant of death" i.e. Alfred Nobel had died. The
newspaper also held Alfred responsible for the death of thousands due to the
invention of dynamite. Alfred himself read this false news of his death.
But the words "merchant of death" used for him in this
newspaper severely shook Alfred Nobel. Suddenly he thought that this news of
his death would be true at some time or the other; so, will the world know him
by this name? He decided that he would erase this stain on his personality.
Alfred Nobel wrote his will on 27 November 1895 in which he set aside
the largest part of his estate to form a trust. After deducting all taxes, 94% of Alfred Nobel's total assets, i.e. 31,225,000
Swedish Kronor were allocated for the establishment of five Nobel Prizes.
Alfred Nobel's wish was that every year the interest on this amount
should be awarded to those whose work is found to be most welfare for mankind.
In this way, the Nobel Prize is given every year in 6 fields to those
who have worked towards enhancing human welfare. This is the reason that the
Nobel Prize has been given mostly to those people who have developed a medicine
or vaccine to overcome a disease or have made tireless efforts to increase
peace and harmony in the world.
Nobel Prize: How is Nobel Prize money arranged?
In 1895, when the fund for the Nobel Prize was established, 31,225,000
Swedish kronor were deposited in the fund. There are currently 1,702 million
Swedish Kronor deposits in the Nobel Fund and 9 million Swedish Kronor are
awarded to one Nobel Prize winner.
Thus, the Nobel Committee distributes about 54 million Swedish Kronor as
prize money every year.
The prize money of the Nobel Prizes depends on the income of the Nobel
Foundation every year.
"The money deposited in the Nobel Fund is invested in securities
considered safe and the interest received from it is distributed among the
Nobel Prize winners".
Between 1901 and 2017, 585 Nobel Prizes have been given to 923 people.
In the year 2017, Nobel Laureate received Rs. 72,227,297 (seven crore 22 lakh,
27 thousand, two hundred, ninety-seven and thirty-five paisa) was given which
is equal to 90 lakh Swedish Kronor.
