LESSON- 4
ROLES PLAYED BY THE INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION
Various national and International organizations have been providing help to Nepal in solving social problems prevalent in Nepalese society. The help of these organizations is very important in solving the problems like poverty, illiteracy, evil practices and superstition. Some of the major organizations are mentioned below.
1.    Red Cross:
a.    This is an international humanitarian organization founded by Jean Henry Dunant in 1863 A.D.
b.    Its head quarter is in Geneva.
c.    Nepal Red Cross Society was established in 2020 BS (1963 AD).
d.    It has been providing food, cloths, drinking water, and basic health services, blood transfusion service, utensils, emergency shelter etc. during the time of natural disaster.
e.    It conducts rescue operation after natural disasters and provides health to the victim.
f.     It has provided ambulance services too.
2.    Scout:
a.    It is an international volunteer organization founded by Robert Baden Powell in 1907 A.D.
b.    Scouts promise to abide by the scout law and serve their duty towards
the nation and god.
c.    Scout play games, explore new places, perform critical tasks and involve in community services.
d.    Nepal scout was established in 2009 BS (1952 AD).
e.    Scout conducts rescue operation during natural disaster.
f.     It involves in crowed and traffic management during national festivals.
g.    It makes its youths involve in community works like planting trees, drinking
water supply, and health and education services.
3.    SOS:
a.    This international organization was established in 1949 AD (2005 B.S.) by Dr. Herman Gmeiner to look after the children who became orphans in Europe after World War Il.
b.    This organization provides homely environment with common mother to orphans and helpless children.
c.    It provides education and helps them to have bright future.
SOME OTHER INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS AND THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS
INF (International Nepal Fellowship)
-       Supports for the rehabilitation of the drug addicts.
-       Runs awareness programs
-       Established hospitals in Pokhara and Surkhet for curative health services.
Plan Nepal:
-       Helps poor children in the area of health, education and security.
-       It has been helping Nepal to construct school building.
ILO (International Labour Organization):
-       It works abolishing all types of child labour in Nepal.
-       It also works to promote the welfare of the labour.
NORAD (Norwegian Agency for International Development):
-       Provides free legal services for the Nepalese women.
-       Works for social, political and economic empowerment of Nepalese women.
DANIDA (Danish International Development):
-       Works for the economical and technical help and training programs for the deaf people.
Rotary International:
-       Works for the welfare of the helpless and disable.
-       Works for the social welfare of the society.
IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature):
-       Active in the conservation of nature and alleviation of poverty.
-       Works for the protection of biodiversity.
-       Supports for preparing of policy for the preservation plan.
Besides the above -mentioned organizations, there are many other international organizations active in Nepal for the physical, economic, educational and social development and environment conservation. Asian Development Bank, World Bank, European Union, World Food Program, United Nations Development Program, etc.
