Reported Speech
Direct Speech
Direct speech refers to the exact words spoken by a person. It is quoted and is usually enclosed in quotation marks. In direct speech, you reproduce the speaker's words as they were spoken.
Example: Mary said, "I am going to the store."
Indirect Speech (Reported Speech)
Indirect speech involves paraphrasing or reporting what someone else has said without quoting their exact words. It is usually introduced by a reporting verb and often requires changes in pronouns, verb tenses, and other elements.
Example: Mary said that she was going to the store.
